Every release ships with a SHA-256 checksum. Compare the hash of your downloaded file with the value published on the release page before installing. If they differ, delete the file and download again from this page only.

The password only decrypts your local key store and cannot be recovered. Your private key or owner/active key backup is the only way to restore access, so keep it offline in a safe place.
